Will "Cougar Town" Finally Get "It" Right?

Will "Cougar Town" Finally Get "It" Right?

All we cougars want is the freedom to "claw" around the neighborhood without being judged.

So imagine my glee when I read from my lair in the claw salon that "Cougar Town" creator and writer Bill Lawrence says that's exactly the premise of his new show starring Courtney Cox premiering Wed night @9:30pm on ABC.

Gorgeous Courtney plays "Jules," who was married for 19 years and is now unmarried with a 17-year-old son. She's apparently 40, more or less (Aren't we all, more or less, depending on lighting, make-up, and cosmetic procedures?).

Everyone knows I personally hate the word cougar.  I get the feeling when the word is attached to me that people picture me on the sidelines of a high school soccer game with a plate of cookies and a taser gun.

Gimme a break, I've only done that once.

Seriously, that's not who I am, and not who most of the women I know are who are back in the dating game later in life. Truly we are women just trying to have some romantic fun again, and if it happens that some younger men find us appealing, good for us!

"What I think is kind of a universal theme," said Lawrence in an interview with David Hinckley of the New York Daily News /New York VUE, "is the fear for someone like Jules or Courney of being judged just by wanting to go out and have some fun. I think that's the show."

And as in real life I wondered to myself, will she also date older men? There is a 100% possibility that Jules wil also date men her age or older, says Lawrence, which gets to the real point, which Lawrrence and Cox both agree is freedom.

OK then — if that's the show, then it will probably be a hit with all of us here at Firstwivesworld!  We'll be watching to see if they get "IT" right.

Attitude is Everything!

I love it!

I hope they aren't going to portray the women as ditzy "Desperate Housewives" types. I'd like to see a more intelligent character like Sally Fields would be able to pull off. I adore the idea of dating younger men. I'm willing to go 11-15 years younger which isn't an impossibility because I've been approached. At 54 that's not a ridiculous span. But I've had to say no to a lot younger than that because it becomes a turn off. I don't want to hang out with boys my daughter's age and my eldest is 29. I'd say that 38 would be the absolute youngest I'd date. It's amazingly fun to dance and kiss with a younger man. Thanks for making me blush!
