Grateful for the Right Attitude

A Turkey Day Message

Posted to by Debbie Nigro on Thu, 11/26/2009 - 9:48am

I can finally walk again as of yesterday — its been about 3-4 weeks since I Kickboxed myself into an MRI. I don't understand it really, because the first 197 of the 200 kicks went just fine.

I was so thankful I didn't need surgery.  And I was actually thrilled to instead find out I have arthritis in my left knee and a Bakers Cyst — both doable.

Next: The cash funds that were taken fraudulently from my bank account two weeks ago by some unscrupulous person who managed to steal my identity and purchase everything in Target in Elmhurst, Queens will be returned “shortly” after the investigation is finished. "Shortly" being the operative word here.

Thankfully there are good bottles of wine for $8.99.

Next: The nice girl driving the huge Ford van from the local group home who crashed into my parked Jaguar last night as she was pulling out of the parking space next to me was really sorry — probably sorrier that I happened to walk out with my sausage stuffing at the exact moment she was hoping no one saw.

Bed, Bath & Re-Bond

Posted to by Debbie Nigro on Thu, 10/15/2009 - 4:04pm

I’m looking for a hotel chain here in the US. who wants to save marriages. That’s right, we’re talking about a “prevent-a-divorce” package. I just read that a Malaysian state government says it plans to offer free honeymoons to save the marriages of couples who are on the brink of divorce. Love it!

So should some smart hotel marketing executive who reads my blog.

This version of Bed, Bath & Re-Bond might just do the trick to give couples some intimate space to remember why they fell in love in the first place, and maybe keep a few families from embarking on the divorce highway.

Ashaari Idris, a government official in northern Terengganu state, says troubled couples will be allowed to spend two nights at the state's scenic islands or beach resorts to help them rekindle their romance under a "Second Honeymoon" program. However, couples who enroll in the program must also undergo counseling.

Love it!  A perfect First Wives World joint venture with…

Marriott? Sheraton? Hilton? Hyatt?

Divorced Women Respond Badly to "Cougar Town"

Posted to by Debbie Nigro on Mon, 09/28/2009 - 10:07pm

Divorced women back in the dating game refuse to be depicted as a bunch of sex-starved idiots who pounce on young men.

If there's one topic I will defend 'til the end of time, it is the right for a woman of any age to find romantic pleasure with anyone she wants at any time without being made to feel self-conscious. Women are already self-conscious about just about everything thanks to the invention of  "air brushing."

CougarTown Writers Should "SCRUB" Their Mouths With Soap!

Posted to by Debbie Nigro on Thu, 09/24/2009 - 1:47pm

Last night's premiere of "CougarTown" with Courtney Cox had me holding my head with disbelief. Here we go again, I thought to myself — another dopey show making older divorced women back in the dating game look like idiots.

As a divorced woman with a 21-year-old daughter who dates younger and older men, I was actually embarrassed for all the other women in the same boat whose families and grown kids watched last night and now think this is how we act. For the most part, women who would likely be categorized as cougars, by the nature of their age and looks, act like ladies...at the very least in front of their own children. Re-inventing a life after divorce is hard enough without now having the whole country think that older women who are back in the dating game are prowling and lewd. Women deserve better. If you agree, please comment on my blog below.

Will "Cougar Town" Finally Get "It" Right?

Posted to by Debbie Nigro on Mon, 09/21/2009 - 3:32pm

All we cougars want is the freedom to "claw" around the neighborhood without being judged.

So imagine my glee when I read from my lair in the claw salon that "Cougar Town" creator and writer Bill Lawrence says that's exactly the premise of his new show starring Courtney Cox premiering Wed night @9:30pm on ABC.

Gorgeous Courtney plays "Jules," who was married for 19 years and is now unmarried with a 17-year-old son. She's apparently 40, more or less (Aren't we all, more or less, depending on lighting, make-up, and cosmetic procedures?).

Everyone knows I personally hate the word cougar.  I get the feeling when the word is attached to me that people picture me on the sidelines of a high school soccer game with a plate of cookies and a taser gun.

Gimme a break, I've only done that once.

Seriously, that's not who I am, and not who most of the women I know are who are back in the dating game later in life. Truly we are women just trying to have some romantic fun again, and if it happens that some younger men find us appealing, good for us!

Whitney Is Getting Back to Great

See, it's never too late!

Posted to by Debbie Nigro on Fri, 09/18/2009 - 12:17am

Whitney, your honesty was loud!

You married for love, you dumbed down for love, you made uncomfortable and insane choices for the sake of 'both of you,” tolerated the intolerable and acted out the unthinkable.

You tried to make light of the gift that you were given in an attempt to even the playing field of love, and I'm sure you thought that would be enough to keep you on the pedestal you so deserved.  We understand. Collectively, we've made a lot of the same choices — in the name of love.

It must have taken everything you had to decide to extricate your self from the madness — but you did it!

I'm certain even you are amazed that you could. You are on the road back  to YOU! It's amazing, isn't it?

Just when you thought you had nothing left — you did!

For everyone who has existed as half of a slowly eroding couple that disintegrated into absurdity, thinking their best days were behind them. Think again. Look around.  It's never too late to start over again, but it's never possible until you can let go of the the past.
