We recently had the pleasure to sit with Tim Storey, a motivational speaker, self-help author and life coach whose passion in life has been to elevate and transform people’s lives who are going through difficult challenges. Through his counseling, seminars and books, he has spent his life encouraging people to live life to the utmost and overcome any setback in life. Whether it’s addiction, cancer, a loss of job, or divorce, Tim believes it’s in each of our power to turn life’s setbacks into an opportunity for change – he believes those setbacks can actually be turned around into personal comebacks.
What inspired you to become a motivational speaker and life coach?
I knew from an early age that I had the desire to help people’s lives. I always felt a sense of compassion when I saw someone going through oppressive and difficult times. I know what it’s like to experience pain in my own life and because of my own experiences and further education, I’ve gathered the tools needed to help people navigate through troublesome situations.
What does divorce really say to you? What is its impact on people and their lives?
The word divorce means, ‘Divided Force.’ So at one time you had an ally and a partner headed in the same direction. Divorce separates you, but I have found that even with the tearing and frustrations divorce causes, one can find ways to keep momentum and move forward.
You have helped with many popular personalities and celebrities going through pain and difficult problems. Are there parallels between what they go through and what we go through?
I have found that no matter who the person is or even what country they are from, pain is pain and hardship is hardship. But, if someone is popular and a public figure well known it can amplify the pain and the hardship because more people are aware of what you are working through. That’s not to diminish the pain we all go through with any challenge, it just adds another layer of difficulty because you’re doing it in the public eye.
What are you and Oprah exploring together in your new relationship with OWN TV Network, Super Soul Sessions, and Oprah’s website?
I am truly excited about my relationship with Oprah and her multi-media universe. From her TV Network, her website, magazines and her online courses, I will be sharing how to transform a setback into a comeback at any age. We will explore how to move forward whether you are experiencing a setback from cancer, drug addition, depression, divorce — all of life’s most difficult circumstances have the potential of a transformation and real comeback. As all of you know Oprah has been at the pinnacle of inspiration for many years. It’s exciting to team up her and combine our talents. (View one of Tim's inspiring talks on Oprah's Supersoul Sunday).
When will your next Oprah TV special air? And who is on it with you?
The segment will air Sunday, Dec 13th at 8 p.m on Oprah’s OWN network. I’m really looking forward to it, and will be surrounded by some wonderful people like, Brene Brown and Elizabeth Gilbert.
Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past thirteen years studying vulnerability, courage, worthiness, and shame. Brené is the author of three #1 New York Times Bestsellers: Rising Strong, Daring Greatly and The Gifts of Imperfection.
Elizabeth Gilbert is from "Eat, Pray, Love." One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia (Viking, 2006), a chronicle of her year of "spiritual and personal exploration" spent traveling abroad. She financed her world travel for the book with a $200,000 publisher's advance after pitching the concept in a book proposal. Her book spent 199 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers List.
It’s truly going to be a wonderful chance to join with these outstanding women to reach out, help, and inspire a large television audience one at one time.
Can you tell us a little about your plans to join First Wives World and your blog “Discovery thru Recovery”?
It has been a wonderful experience being able to travel the world and participate with different people and cultures. In these experiences I have found that no matter what country you are from or in what culture you are raised, life will always have its challenges. Most of us start our lives with momentum or with a surge, and then later in life we find ourselves challenged by setbacks. Life’s setbacks can be from a divorce, the loss of a job, a relationship that just isn’t working or a number of things that brings us pain, but we all have to find our way through the pain. And even though a person may be in the middle of a setback from a divorce or the loss of a job, they don’t have to sit or settle in the midst of a setback. When you are feeling the sting of your setback, life is preparing your comeback.
I am excited about this amazing new blog that will be exploring the topic, ‘Discovery thru Recovery.’ And, by discovery thru recovery I mean, “through life’s pain, it can become our beautiful gain.” Whether I am doing a seminar or speaking on Oprah's OWN Network, everyone who is watching and listening is both in the recovery and the discovery zones at the same time. I look forward to being able to reach out and help women understand and accept that life can still be beautiful, even in the midst of life’s challenging circumstances. I am so glad to be here with you and next year we will have the chance to discover ‘life’ together once a week here on the site. I am truly excited to write every week about the beautiful life that we live.
Thanks Tim! You’re an inspiration and we can’t wait for your weekly blogs.
