As a long tenured former financial advisor, credit resoration consultant, and lender, I understand how many might be concerned about credit. The real problem with credit is that it is so costly, and that many people (including women) don't know how to cope with accumulated debt and delinquency. The truth is there are no magic wands - unless the debt is the result of fraud, the best way to cope is by paying it off as rapidly as possible. Here's a tip... read a 110 page book that I've recommended to thousands of clients over the years (no I didn't write it and I'm not getting a commission for selling it). "The Four Laws of Debt Free Prosperity" by Blaine Harris will show you the best way to cure your debt/credit woes (and it's actually a fun read).

My ex husband completely shattered my credit by accumulating a lot of debts in my name; so not only is it frustrating to not be able to qualify for things that I need (like having to purchase my car through my mother), but it's a reminder of how difficult things were between us.
