Eight-Year-Old Wins Divorce Case
In an update to the eight-year-old Yemeni girl's divorce case we covered earlier this week, the court has ruled in the girl's favor and dissolved the marriage.
The two-month marriage was terminated in court yesterday, after recounting the abuse and rape she endured at the hands of her 30-year-old husband.
Although the man will unlikely face criminal charges for his actions (some nonsense about not recognizing rape in marriage), and her parents must pay him $250 as "compensation" (can't really even comment on that), the eight-year-old is free of her husband. Her lawyers have ensured that she will be placed in proper custody and receive a formal education.
