OK, nobody seems to be able to figure out if there's a "season" for divorce. In the last couple months I've seen various stories, all claiming there are different times of the year when the number of new divorce cases spikes.
The funny thing is, I think a lot of so-called "experts" seem to be spinning this idea whenever they're asked by an enterprising reporter who's scrounging for a story. Because I've now seen a story suggesting that fall is the season for divorces and another where a prominent divorce attorney says a lot of divorces happen after the first of the year.
So which one is it? Fall? Holiday season? January and February? Does it really matter? Probably the most insightful thing I've read in any of these types of stories is that the timing of the divorce is deceiving because for many couples it's been brewing for some time and the marriage was all but over long before anyone started drawing up a separation agreement.
I still think it's funny that every "expert" has a different opinion on this.
