Ladies, when I was in my early 20;s I dated a few cougars that were in their 30's. Correction: I had sex with them. I didn't date them. They were easy and, quite frankly, I taught them a lot more than they taught me. I treated them as I do any other woman, as disposable and inconvenient to have around as they would interfere with my career. Guys have sex with "cougars" because they are an easy target of opportunity. We never see a future with you beyond the sex we are having with you right now, because there isn't a future. You are too insecure and looking for validation that you are too weak to provide yourselves. PS: Women over 40 just aren't hot and have nothing to offer a young man that the 30 year old chicks do better and look better when they do it, but you are all disposable. Sorry, but the social anecdotal proof is true. Another point ladies. If you are 50, you look 50. If you are 45, you look 45. You can tell yourself whatever you want, but you don't look younger. No young man in his right mind, with any game, wants to have sex with you. The only guys who do are the ones with no other options.

I have always been attracted to older men. Now that I am 51 years old, that is changing. I have worked out out all my life, and thanks to good genes, most people guess my age at late 30's. The last two men I dated, my age, needed viagra. Not that I am unsympathetic, but it was a let down and left me feeling unattractive. I recently started dating a man who is 47 years old, not much younger, but he works out and has the body of a 30 year old. Well...I can't wipe the grin off my face just from thinking about him. It is not just physical, I like him as a person, but wow did he rock my world. And I his. I was very proud of myself that I held my own between the sheets. Infact, at one point he fell out of the bed! Whoever invented the term cougar must have been a jealous man. This is just another avenuie where women are coming into their own and if that means a younger man..GO FOR IT. It is well worth it.

You don't have to debate the term cougar any longer. I originated the term "Real Cougar" and my website and social club are for smart, sexy, independent women who are proud to be over 40. YouTube's video of a mother cougar protecting her baby against a grizzly bear exemplifies the cougar spirit. She is strong, brave, a skilled predator - yet so devoted to her young that she will put herself in the path of extreme danger to protect the one she loves. Labeling women who attract men much younger than themselves as cougars says a great deal about the woman, and the man she attracts. A younger man who sees beyond aging skin to the spirit of the cougar deserves as much credit as the woman who refuses to settle for less than she wants because society tells her she is beyond her years as a successful predator. Any man fortunate enough to be "caught" by a cougar will delight in her experience and her lack of pretense. The cougar is more than a predatory animal. The cougar is the embodiment of confidence that can only come from proving to yourself time and time again that you are worthy of any prey that becomes your prize.

This post is so timely! I chatted online yesterday (for 3 hours!) with a 29yr old; I'll be 50 tomorrow. He's cute as a button and I had to admit to him that his attention did wonders for my ego. Will we ever get together? Who knows; he lives 100 miles away from me. But it was still fun getting to know him. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the term "cougar" but maybe we gals should just embrace it and laugh in the faces of those who tsk-tsk us. It's similar to when a woman in her 50s has a baby - people think it's horrible, she's selfish, too old, etc. But when Tony Randall fathered a child at 74 he was called a stud! In the same vein, to quote Abigail Breslin in "Definitely, Maybe"...what's the boy word for "slut"? Oh yeah, there isn't one. Where's the justice?? :o)

Is the term "cougar" really that bad? As my FWW colleague Debbie Nigro points out, the term is used to “describe a woman who chooses to play/date/carouse/befriend a younger man.”

Debbie thinks the term is demeaning to women because it “makes it sound like older women are pouncing on innocent young men, when truthfully we are treating them” to our wisdom, experience, and an occasional expensive dinner.

“Neither side in this romantic pairing initially embarks innocently and without agenda,” Debbie wrote. “Both find it curious.”

Debbie, however, thinks there should be a new word and is offering radio stations, newspapers, and TV shows the opportunity to run a contest to find a better term. We’ll use their results and then take a national poll.

But here’s the thing: I like the term “cougar.”

First of all, at least men aren’t invoking another animal analogy, like “hog” or “rhinoceros.” A cougar is thin, feline, beautiful, and strong.

It’s also sleek, smart and pursues a wide variety of prey. Variety is always good especially when you’ve lived a life being loyal to one person who then either dumps you or disappoints you.

In fact, this cat has the greatest range of any wild, terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere.

Note: Wider than the wolf.

It’s solitary and doesn’t need to stick around, like those herding animals. Nor does a cougar want to stick around, which, natch, makes them more appealing.
